- SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMS
There will be five lectures and about 20 short talks. Discussion is one of the major scientific activities at the summer institute. We have reserved one conference hall, one large seminar room(room No. 3). and two small rooms (room No. 1,2 and 3) which can be used for informal meetings and discussions. Preliminary schedules of lectures and talks are enclosed. The main lectures will be held in the big conference hall. Unless announced, they will be held from 9:00 to 11:30. Announcements of any change will be posted in front of the common room (room No. 4).
PROCEEDINGS
All participants are asked to write a short activity report in the enclosed form before they leave. We will also publish the proceedings, and kindly ask all the speakers to contribute to the proceedings. Details will be announced at the end of the meeting.
TRANSPORTATION
The following is some information only for those who will arrive at the Narita International Airport and directly come to the Summer Institute. (Please visit: http://grace.hyperdia.com/kj/english/route/hyperd01.cgi or http://www.jorudan.co.jp/.)
JR is an abbreviation of Japan Railway. Take a limited express train called "Narita Express" at the JR Narita airport station, which takes about 80 minutes to reach Shinjuku, Tokyo. The railway line is called "Soumu line". It is bound for Shinjuku or Ikebukuro. At the JR Shinjuku station you change to the JR Chuo line, take a limited express to Otsuki and get off at the JR Otsuki station. The limited express is usually bound for Matsumoto, and it will take about one hour. At the JR Otsuki station you change to the Fuji-kyuko and get off at the Fuji-Yoshida station. This will take about half hours. Then take a taxi to:
Nikkeiren Jinzai-Kaihatsu Center,
Fuji-Kenshusho (Tel: 0555-22-5156)
which is the Japanese name of the conference location. It will cost about 7,000 Yen altogether.
REGISTRATION
Registration will start on Tuesday August 12 at 14:00in the entrance lobby of the conference location. You will get among other things a key of your room and tickets for the meals.
CLIMATE AND CLOTHING
It is usually very humid and very hot in the summer in Japan. The temperature in August can easily rise to more than 30 Celsius. However, we will stay in Fuji-Yoshida. The altitude of Fuji-Yoshida is 750 m, soit will be slightly cooler.(The average temperature at the top of Mt.. Fuji(3776 m) in August is about 8 Celsius.)
COMMUNICATIONS
There are computers in the common room (room No. 4) that are connected the ethernet. The use is free. It is also possible to connect your PC to the internet.
Printing is also possible: 10 Yen/page.
OFFICE
The office of the Summer Institute is located in the room No. 5. You may ask for public transportation, social programs etc. It is usually open from 8:00-9:30 and 12:30-14:30. If it is closed, please do not hesitate to ask any member of the organizing committee.
COMMON ROOM
We will use the room No. 4 as the common room and offer coffee in the morning and afternoon. In front of this room we will post announcements on the schedules and changes of talks, social programs etc in the actual day. The latest abstracts of hep-ph and hep-th will be available in this room.
WELCOME
An informal welcome reception will be held on Tuesday evening August 12 in the lobby.
BANQUET
We will hold a dinner party on Friday evening August 15.
MEALS
All the meals will be served in the dinning room.
Breakfast: 7:30-9:00
Lunch: 12:00-13:00
Dinner: 18:00-19:30
Please put your ticket into a box located in the center of the dinning room.
There are also special meals for children. If you would like to have them, please tell us at the registration or on the previous day.
CANCELLATIONS
If you would like to cancel a meal, please inform us in the office between 8:30 and 9:30 on the previous day.
Cancellation of the meals is NOT accepted on the same day.
Please also note that the room reservations are now final and can not be cancelled.
BATH
There are Japanese baths for women on the second flour and for men on the first flour. They are open from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 24:00. Showers can be used at any time. Baths and showers are free.
LAUNDRY
There exists a laundry at the conference location. It is located on the first flour, and is free for use, except for the gas drier.
CLOSING-TIME
Outside doors are locked at midnight. After midnight you can NOT enter the house.
TELEPHONE
In the entrance lobby there are public telephones. You can make international calls, too. Please DO NOT use the room telephone to make a call outside of the house.
EXCURSIONS
We have reserved Saturday August 16 for excursions. Depending on the whether, we will change the excursion day to an earlier or later date.
A. Climbing Mt. Fuji
Mt. Fuji is 3776 m high.The closest entrance is the Kawaguchi-ko entrance.We have to go to a parking area for the Kawaguchi-ko entrance (2300 m)by a bus.The path to the top is very steep, and it will take $5 \pm 1$ hours to reach the top. The average temperature in August at the top of Mt. Fuji is about 8 Celsius. If you would like to climb Mt. Fuji, please bring appropriate clothes and shoes with you. Details will be announced.
B. Other excursions
We plan to organize other excursions for those who do not climb Mt. Fuji, for instance, to the lakes of Fuji. We will also spontaneously organize excursions for the family and friends traveling with participants.
