Our Institute is located in the Kanazawa city, Ishikawa Prefecture in a central part of the mainland of Japan.

It takes approx. 5 hours from Tokyo, 3.5 hours from Osaka and Nagoya to reach Kanazawa by train.

MPj04372380000[1]ACCESS TO KANAZAWA CITY FROM MAJOR CITIES

There are four ways to come to Kanazawa: by air, train, highway bus and car.

Please click here to see details specific to trip from/to Kanazawa.

A very useful and effective way to plan your trip inside Japan is offered by HYPERDIA which searches a wide network of public transportation companies for a best route.

If you travel by car then you may also find a route by NAVI TIME which shows comparatively useful and detailed information based on a simple “from/to” input.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                  MCj04326760000[1]to top

MPj04372380000[1]ACCESS TO KANAZAWA UNIVERSITY (Kakuma Campus)

j0339318by Air

The closest domestic airport is Komatsu Airport.

There are flights from and to Narita Airport (only one round-trip flight a day),

Haneda Airport (10 round-trip flights a day) and so on.

However, there are no flights from the Osaka area, so that if you come from Kansai International Airport, please take either a JR train or a highway bus.

From Komatsu Airport:

Take Airport Limousine bus bounded for “Kanazawa Station”,

and get off at the last bus stop Kanazawa Station West Exit (“Kanazawa Eki Nishi Guchi” 金沢駅西口).

(Bus departures depend on flights arrivals: the buses start in 5-10 minutes after arrival of each flight.)

It takes about 40 min. by a super express bus, 60 min. by the other buses, and costs 1,100 yen (one-way).

The final destination of the bus from the Komatsu Airport is the stop No. 5 of the Kanazawa Station West Exit bus terminal.

After you get off the bus, go through the Station yard, to East Exit bus terminal.

Find the bus stop No. 6 of the Kanazawa Station East Exit ("Kanazawa Eki Higashi Guchi" 金沢駅西口).

You may take Hokutetsu bus either Nos. 91, 93, 94 or 97 bounded for “Kanazawa University (“Kanazawa Daigaku” 金沢大学)”.

You should get off at “Kanazawa Daigaku Shizenken Mae (金沢大学自然研前)” bus stop.

The bus trip takes about 40 min. and costs 350 yen (one-way).

Approximately from 3 to 4 buses depart each hour from the Kanazawa Station to the University.

The earliest bus starts at 7:30am, while the last bus starts its journey at 7:27pm from the Kanazawa Station (as of September 28, 2009).

Please contact us for a detailed bus schedule.

(If you would like to come directly to a guesthouse of the University, get off the bus at “Kanazawa Daigaku Chuo 金沢大学中央 bus stop

which is next to the bus stop of “Kanazawa-Daigaku-Shizenken-Mae 金沢大学自然研前”.)

Please find here a map of the bus terminal at the Kanazawa Station.

Please refer to here for a guide how to use a local bus in Japan.

It is very important to keep in mind that the railway ticket should be returned back to the JR (Japan Railway)

at the final point of your destination at special ticket gates. Please keep your ticket with you during your trip.

From JR Kanazawa Station

After you exit from a ticket gate, turn right and walk to a bus terminal at the East exit.

Find the bus stop No. 6 of the Kanazawa Station East Exit ("Kanazawa Eki Higashi Guchi" 金沢駅東口).

You may take Hokutetsu bus either Nos. 91, 93, 94 or 97 bounded for “Kanazawa University (“Kanazawa Daigaku” 金沢大学)”.

in the Kanazawa city

There are many hotels and ryokan (Japanese style hotel) around Kanazawa station and center of the Kanazawa city since Kanazawa is one of the famous tourist cities in Japan.  Below we provide you with a list of some hotels that we recommend.  All of them are placed near the center of the city (“Musashi”, “Korinbo” , “Kenrokuen-shita” area), at comparatively calm places located little apart from the busiest streets.  We recommend you to stay in one of these hotels if you would like to sightsee the city.  You can take a bus from the closest bus stops of the hotels to the University.  It takes about 25 – 30 min to reach the University from the center of the city.

If you would like to stay in one of these hotels, please contact us in advance since we may offer you room rates that are cheaper than those offered by the hotels.  The official hotel prices are indicated below (here "S" means "single room" and "T" stands for "twin room"):

Kanazawa Excel Hotel Tokyu S:14,400 yen, T:22,522 yennearest bus stop “Korinbo (香林坊)”

Kanazawa New Grand HotelS:9,817 yen, T:18,480 yennearest bus stop “Minami-cho (南町)”

KKR Hotel KanazawaS:8,000 yen, T:16,000 yennearest bus stop “Owari-cho (尾張町)”

MCj03970240000[1]RESTAURANTS, GROCERY, BANK(ATM), POST OFFICE

The Kakuma Campus is located in the suburbs of the city, so it is quite inconvenient to take a meal or shop around this area, especially if one does not have a car.

There are some restaurants and grocery stores in the campus, and a convenient store and supermarket near the campus.

You can buy sandwiches, packed lunches, snacks, drinks, stationery, etc. in the stores of the Campus.
